Match Preview: Castres Olympique vs Leinster Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2017-01-19

We're back, baby!!!

The question was posed here last week about how much we could trust Leinster's apparent progress this season, but we got a resounding answer. Leinster were awesome and showed they're ready to compete at the top table again after a season as also rans. Even though Francois Steyn deserved it for his malicious attempt to take Johnny Sexton out of the game, it was a shame the red card happened.

Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Montpellier Herault Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2017-01-12

This is the big one!!!

This is the game which will tell Leinster if their apparent progress this season is real or just an attractive facade. Leinster have a beautifully clear target, win and they're in the quarter-finals, no matter what else happens. However, anyone expecting a comfortable win will be in for a surprise on Friday evening. Montpellier are a serious outfit with huge men in their backs and forwards. They're third in the Top 14 and are coached by a World Cup winner in Jake White. Their massive budget has seen them assemble a squad of top quality internationals from around the globe.

Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Zebre

by Jim O'Connor, 2017-01-05

It's fair to say it wasn't a particularly satisfying Christmas for Leinster.

After they got nothing in the Munster match, they would have expected five points on New Year's Eve against a fairly weak Ulster team. For 42 minutes all was going to plan as Leinster raced into a 22-0 lead. True, they weren't playing that great and they were fortunate that Tommy Bowe didn't apply his hand resin before the match, but surely the bonus point was only a matter of time? But it never happened and more worrying, never really looked like happening either. Instead Ulster dominated possession for the rest of the match and held Leinster scoreless.

Match Preview: Leinster Rugby vs Ulster Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2016-12-30

Leinster went to Munster on Monday and were well beaten, a fairly predictable outcome given the relative strengths of the two sides. Munster took a punt on naming most of their internationals and it worked but Leinster didn't help themselves with some very poor kicking from hand. They'll be disappointed not to have put in a better performance but they'll move on to their New Year's Eve clash with Ulster determined to get back to winning ways.

Match Preview: Munster Rugby vs Leinster Rugby

by Jim O'Connor, 2016-12-24

There will be no turkey and mince pies for the Leinster players on the Christmas day however. They'll be preparing for the big match on St. Stephen's Day in Limerick where it's first versus second in the Pro12. The two teams' records this season are almost identical with eight wins, two defeats, 37 points and 34 tries scored each. The difference between the teams and the reason Munster occupy the top spot, is their defence. At almost the halfway point in the league, Munster currently have the best defensive record in the league having only conceded 15 tries and 129 points in their ten games so far.
