They know how to handle oysters in LaRochelle... It's the hot dogs I'd worry about there.

There's great shellfish all over the place there if you're into it. Nice little wine bar / cabin at the covered market with plates of oysters

If you are in La Rochelle and enjoy seafood, I strongly recommend "La Panier de Crabe".
Ate well there last September.
