TV Package to watch the Rugby 22/23

Post by Up Wexford »

Hi,

This may have been answered in another post, so apologies in advance if so!

What is the best package to cover the rugby on TV? Am I right in saying we only need Sky Sports Extra, and not regular Sky Sports as all the Champions Cup Rugby is on Premier and BT, which is covered by a Sky Sports Extra package, and there is very little, if any, on regular Sky Sports?

Sky TV plus Sky Sports Extra is approx a 17 euro per month add on

Sky TV plus Sky Sports plus Sky Sports Extra is approx 35 euro per month add on I think.

All URC matches will be covered on RTE and free to air for 22/23, is that correct?

Just want to make sure I have all the Leinster matches covered, based in Dublin!

Many thanks for your help!

As you're based in Dublin, this should help

URC TV will be showing all the games, how you purchase them is up to you. You can buy them all, or all the irish ones or on a game by game basis

So

52/60 games involving Irish provinces will be shown FTA on RTE/TG4
Premier Sports are showing every single game
BT Sports is showing the all the Champions Cup games (some games will be on FTA)
Sky Sports show Irish summer tour games

So, if you want to guarantee seeing every Leinster game you can...
Subscribe to premier sports - part of the sky sports extra package which also includes BT Sports for the HEC

Or

RTE/TG4 for those 52 games. If there are any Leinster games in the 8 games not shown, you can buy individual games for €9.99. And purchase the NowTV Sports Extra pass of your choice of duration for the HEC games (you can get day passes for a tenner)

Or

A URC TV package of your choice and a NowTV pass of your choice

Amazon Prime will have the Autumn Internationals so you may have to take it for the month/get free trial etc for those games.

Philip Browne said a few years ago that coverage is too proliferated and a ‘rugby pass’ was needed. World Rugby need to sort it out

Outside of Ireland the options get significantly worse.
Especially if rights are sold en masse with no real regard for whether they get shown or not.

Yep, UK would be Premier Sports for URC, BT Sports for CC, Amazon Prime for Autumn internationals and Sky Sports for Summer Tests.

Canada is a cluster f%~k?
I was happily pay a decent premium for one 'RugbyPass' for URC/CC/Internationals but they're split between Sportsnet (I need to buy a cable subscription to be guaranteed all games), DAZN and possibly something else with little guarantee they wouldn't be bumped off schedules because interest is so low compared to main sports here.

Do URC TV still not show analysis pre/during/after matches?

And warm ups if you start the stream early.
And pick up the not always guarded chat of the production staff.
