Re: Leinster v Chile
Someone tell me that Chile were missing 10 players. If not the RWC is going to be very tough for them.
Never argue with an idiot. Someone looking on may not be able tell the difference

Thus was the Chile team that lost 39-10 to Tonga last week.
CHILE
1 Javier Carrasco (17 Salvador Lues 44′), 2 Augusto Böhme (16 Diego Escobar 44′), 3 Matías Dittus (18 Iñaki Gurruchaga 44′), 4 Santiago Pedrero (23 Ignacio Silva 44′), 5 Javier Eissmann (20 Joaquín Milesi 74′), 6 Martín Sigren (capt.), 7 Clemente Saavedra, 8 Raimundo Martínez (19 Pablo Huete 59′), 9 Lukas Carvallo (21 Marcelo Torrealba 48′), 10 Rodrigo Fernández, 11 Pablo Casas, 12 José Ignacio Larenas (22 Nicolás Garafulic 45′), 13 Matías Garafulic, 14 Iñaki Ayarza, 15 Santiago Videla
Here is the Chilean team that played us.
CHILE: Santiago Videla; Lukas Carvallo (Rodrigo Fernández ’43), Matías Garafulic, Clemente Armstrong, Gaspar Moltedo (José Ignacio Larenas ’66); Diego Warnken, Nicolás Herreros (Benjamin Videla ’58); Salvador Lues (Matías Dittus ’76), Diego Escobar, Iñaki Gurruchaga (Javier Carrasco ’58); Pablo Huete, Javier Eissmann; Martín Sigren, Ignacio Silva, Clemente Saavedra (Joaquin Milesi ’48).
There's something like 12 or 13 changes. That said their first team will struggle at the world cup. They are going in as a 5th seed team and are almost certain to finish 5th in their group. I'd even say they are one of the weaker 5th seed teams.

Deeny in particular gave a real Pro performance a la Ross Moloney. . However, Boomer, as a Club player, was a standout. 80 mins in the back-row alongside Rhys, Scott Penny and the impressive Sean O'Brien. Leo played him in the scrum-half role, recently developed by Josh and he looks to me as if he could do a job for us as an occasional, like-for-like, replacement for Will Connors. He's the same build, a very decent tackler on both shoulders, he wins turnovers and his fitness level is outstanding for a Club player. Presumably all those elements would improve more if he was contracted into Leinster camp for 6 months. We certainly need cover for Will Connors, alongside Penny.dobby15 wrote: ↑November 18th, 2022, 5:01 pmBoomer was exceptional I thought, well worth a mention. Deeny, Foley, Brownlee and Turner also all had good games.ChrisUppy wrote: ↑November 18th, 2022, 4:57 pm Well I thought Tector had quite an impressive game. Made really good decisions coming around the corner and the team had good shape with him at the helm.
Smith unfortunately had an absolute shocker. Surely uncharacteristic as I haven't seen him very often.
Standout performers were the comms team. Main commentator was impressively informative on our fringe players and James Lowe was entertaining.

Re: Leinster v Chile
World Rugby could do themselves, Chile and RWC23 a big favour by finding a Spanish (or even Italian) speaking top-class, Defence Coach and ask him to spend a month in Santiago teaching the Chilean Squad, and their coaches, about modern defence alignment and objectives.
Everyone of today's Squad was capable of tackling well on at least one shoulder but the Leinster attack made mincemeat of their alignment and depth. They defended like a mid-1990's Irish team and they created no pressure on ball-carriers or support runners (except poor Ben Brownlee who was hit by a late arrival).
With a month's serious work, they could be 20 points better off defensively and that would also give them confidence to attack more with ball in hand, rather than kicking just to get out of defence.
They've miraculously qualified for RWC23 (ahead of teams like the US) so they deserve all the assistance the rugby 'family' can give them to put up a decent performance in their first World Cup.

Fair point. It could be any month too.
The vast majority of the Chilean team play for Selknam which is a club in the South American professional league so a coach/consultant could show up whenever they find time and work with most of the team.

Finally got to see this game and was curious to see if Smith was as bad as people said. Yikes! If anything posters on here were very kind.

Re: Leinster v Chile
They were very poor to be perfectly honest, Had nothing when they had the ball and the only reason that we didn't put an extra 20 or 30 points on them was because we took the foot off the gas and our own poor execution in the final quarter. You can understand that they weren't used to the pace of the game and skills a little off but the physical condition of some of them was very poor, anyone can get fit and in shape, that's the minimum you'd expect for a team coming the RWC.naraic wrote: ↑November 18th, 2022, 5:13 pmBothTrapperChamonix wrote: ↑November 18th, 2022, 5:04 pm Someone tell me that Chile were missing 10 players.
