Midway through the article it confirms the academy system has been scrapped
The National Academy is being scrapped.

Seems to me they are following our setup with the Clubs looking after the younger players themselves.
Seems like a penny pinching exercise by the Italians. The RTE pod last week was very good with Bradley, Tremenjus and Berch, a good exploration of the Italian situation (over 50% of the ep. was dedicated to it. I am no clearer as to what needs to be done, but it is disappointing that they are dismantling the positive legacy of Conor O'Shea's tenure. What are they spending their 6N money on?
We have people talk about how great it is for our Academy players to be around and training with the senior team.

Now the Italian youngsters are going to be in and around the 2 senior squads instead of hot housed away from the senior squads.

I remember a few seasons ago (I think it was) Zebre had an injury crisis and the recruited players from the semi pro league in Italy for a match. At the time they had no academy to dip into. Look at how much game time players from our Academy ate getting now. They could have benefited as we have.

Thats not whats going to happen though, they're going to the clubs (i.e Viadana, Petrarca etc), not the franchises (unless I've picked up on this wrong?)

I think this is part of the issue. No one here knows what is happening 100%. I read the only article linked here and thought it was the URC teams; you picked it up as the AIL of Italian rugby.

I just hope someone in Italy knows what is going on.😉😉😂😂

Looking forward to this later. Pity about the clash, the last time this fixture was played was one of the most enjoyable games I’ve ever watched.

That game also clashed with a Leinster away match.

Great win. Was 17 each at half time with ireland finishing under pressure. Second half ireland had the wind, stepped up a gear and just dominated most of it. Could have scored another one or two tries.

Some beautiful trys in that game. The first England one and both of King's were superb. Some future stars in that Irish team.

Just watched this now, the speed this team plays at is just incredible. It has everything really, both physically and mentally.

When Tector got MOTM I went through the team and was thinking there was a case for maybe 8 or 9 others as well. So many brilliant performances but given that picking out the best performers is a bit more important at underage level, I thought McGuire was the standout. He put in a huge shift yet still looked fresh as a daisy when running off near the end.
