Sunshine, that's a bit pessimistic, Burke has been great, duggan is decent in set piece and has youth on his side. Buckley is 31 not old for a prop, should have a year or two.

With Jennings, Forde, Dylan tm and winger can't think of his name pushing up from academy that should be relatively low cost contracts plus Arnold, Dillane, papilii, fafita and maybe a few more moving on we should be able to target a new signing or two.

What about Ed Byrne, Vakh Abladze and Martin Maloney with a short term cover option for Mick Kearney
I don't think so. Buying the type of player Connacht need to push on to the next level requires a large cost they can't pay at the moment. Especially with the building costs for the stadium finally starting.

The most obvious inter provincial transfer of all time is surely Peter Dooley to Connacht?

Clearly good enough to cement that #1 jersey, now fourth choice LH at Leinster with Milne / Boyle coming behind.
TBF I think Milne would be someone Connacht would target rather than Dooley. Milne has links with the Connacht branch and nearly went into their academy. They could easily keep tabs on him and make him an offer if things have stalled at Leinster especially if Dooley isn't going anywhere.

Cathal Forde, Shane Jennings, Oisín McCormack, Darragh Murray, Ciaran Booth and Diarmuid Kilgallen all promoted. Good to see. Forde was outstanding for the ireland U20s. I read a piece a few months ago where Greg O'Shea said Kilgallen was the best athlete he's seen in the ireland 7s squad.

king wrote: January 18th, 2022, 10:14 pm Dooley was so obvious a couple of years ago that I left him out because he must have had plenty of chances but didn't want a move anywhere or he'd have been off.

No ambition. He'd rather spend his career in the reserves.

I think that's unfair. He renewed his contract (presumably for 2 seasons) in 2020 under very different circumstances. I can see why players wouldn't move if they didn't have to.

Leinster were affected by 3 front row departures, Healy was aging, Byrne had been injured more, the Porter switch was miles off. All were doing international duty.

He had reason to like his chances. Connacht had Buckley at his peak.

The Porter switch and shortened calendar has been devastating for gametime and maybe he missed an early window to go on loan.

Only last season he was getting 17 appearances and starting against Montpellier.

Congratulations to Connacht on qualifying for the knockout stages of the HC for the first time.

Connacht line out is markedly improved this season, from what I can see. Used to be their Achilles Heel. Isn't anymore.

Second try for Stade disallowed for the their hooker shoulder charging Delahunt in the ribs. Gets yellow carded too. Eejit. Still 10-10.

Try Blade! 37 Mins. Carty converts a difficult kick from the sideline - 10-17!

What I have learned from today is that Connacht need to install a plastic pitch.

The surface really supports their running game.

That's going to happen this summer, planned to be completed in time for the start of next season:

I played league on the one in Terenure and it f&%ked up my neck and have nerve issues since. That and catching your toe in it to hyperflex your ankle. So can't say I enjoyed the experience much.

Tough challenge against Glasgow tomorrow with a lot of guys unavailable, but really looking forward to see what Cathal Forde can do at 10. He was excellent for the U20s last year when deployed 12, very comfortable taking the ball to the line.

Long interview with Conor Oliver.

Probably wasn't gametime in Leinster with other options, I think Munster missed out though.
