Youths Rugby

Post by ormond lad »

Leinster dont really provide coverage of these leagues which is a shame. nothing on leinster site about finals

Navan won the under 17 premier division last weekend. beat Edenderry 13-10

15s premier division final is this weekend between Navan and Portlaoise

Leinster Branch do a great job on the underage finals nowadays. That wasn't the case as recently as 6 or 7 years ago. Great change in fairness.

BTW, the medals for winning the U18 cup are proper medals from Weirs jewellers and cost a fair bit to get extras!

As recently as 2 years ago, the U18 cup (Tom D'arcy) was relegated to being played mid-week in Carlow, which was somewhat disrespectful to the teams involved who should really have had their day out in Energia

There is definitely a bigger focus on making them an event now.

Yes but it's mainly about players and what schools they attend.
Schools youths competitions have looser restrictions about attending the exempt schools

And that would tend to be borne out when you look at the Shane Horgan cup matches - where Metro would tend to be behind most of the other areas (that's not to say they dont win matches and perform well) and that feeds into the makeup of the Leinster U18 Clubs sides, where Metro tends to be the least represented of the 5 areas
